Umlaas Road, Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN):
The OneLogix group, a JSE listed logistics service provider, has recently made a substantial investment in the Cato Ridge area of KZN. The recently completed R130 million OneLogix Logistics Hub is a large, cutting edge development situated at Umlaas Road. It has been purposefully designed to substantially enhance the group's ability to offer quality and cost effective logistics services to its customers.
Ian Lourens, CEO of OneLogix said, "Not only does our OneLogix Logistics Hub benefit our clients but we will create additional direct and indirect skilled and semi-skilled jobs, further to the group's current workforce of 1,800 people."

Several of the existing group facilities within the immediate KZN region have been integrated into this state of the art 14 hectare (or 140 000 square metre) site, in a manner that considerably improves the cost effectiveness, quality and range of services on offer from OneLogix.

"The group acquired a large tract of land for this purpose within the municipal area of Mkhambathini, in an area specifically designated by local and provincial authorities within KZN as an economic opportunity node," Lourens explained.

Furthermore, there is abundant space for future expansion of this Logistics Hub facility, an avenue that the group has already activated. Given the success of phase one of the development, the Group is actively investigating a further
10 ha or (100 000 square metre) extension to this facility.

When asked about the choice of site, Lourens explained that it is perfectly located in order to ensure logistics cost-efficiency. It is easily accessible and visible from the N3 highway, the logistics artery that connects Durban, Africa's busiest port, to Gauteng, the economic heartland of South Africa, and beyond. It is also a direct route into the economically burgeoning Southern African continent.

Importantly, the OneLogix Logistics Hub is located well outside of the coastal rust belt areas and is therefore not compromised in terms of the quality of vehicle storage on offer. The facility has the ability to store 5,000 motor vehicles and trucks for onward distribution across the country, but will also include state-of-the-art technology, a sophisticated workshop, driver accommodation, driver training facilities and a pre-inspection facility for OEM's.
A deliberate decision was taken to select a property with a rail siding where the proposed rail upgrade link connecting Durban to Johannesburg is imminent. "The provision for a fully functional rail siding has been incorporated into the site layout and design and we have a view to investigate a mutually beneficial Public Private Partnership with Transnet," said Lourens.

In conclusion, Lourens commented that this Logistics Hub is a pivotal step forward for the OneLogix group. Not only does the facility answer to many needs of the OEM's but similarly has a positive social impact on the Mkhambathini community. The facilities such as driver accommodation and training are vital to one of our most important assets, our staff. "All in all we are extremely proud of what we have put into place," concluded Lourens.
